Small town charm

Previously: Repairs

The best thing is that I am only ten minutes from home, so I don’t mind walking, even if it’s hot outside and even if I am in heels. Thank God I walked in heels all my teenage years, so I don’t find it that much torture. But yes, I am out of place. Everyone is dressed so much more casually than I am, even working people. Only a few jackets, but not full suits. I’ll probably need to adjust my wardrobe to stay around.
On my walk home, I am admired by people, kids, grannies, and men. While they look at me, I look at the landscapes. Mountains far off and fields of grain and vineyards accompany me.
Once I get home, anxiety starts again; only now it’s because of the interview. Will they call?
Friday nothing, Saturday nothing, Sunday nothing.
Sunday afternoon came, and once it hit 4 p.m. with no call, I gave up hope. I decided to go grocery shopping, and then I went back to self-pity and crying in my bed.
In a pair of short denim shorts, a white T-shirt, sneakers, and my hair in a bun, I walked towards the store. The afternoon sun was melting me. I was sweating everywhere, and I felt sticky, but that was also my mood, so I didn’t mind.
With a box of tampons, a wine bottle, some sweets, and toilet paper in my handbasket, and while searching for my favorite cereal box, I bump into Denisse and Alex, or they bump into me.
– Hi Alice, how are you? Dennise asked with the same large smile on her face. Damn, in a summer dress, she was even more beautiful, yet her forms were better defined. She had curves like I hadn’t seen in a while in a petite woman.
Alex, on the other hand, looked awkward, and then I realized what I had in my hand. Normally, I am not embarrassed, but I know men feel uncomfortable, so I throw them in my basket.
-Hi guys! Well, just getting stuff. What about you?
-We are grocery shopping with our mom! She’s around somewhere! Did you get the call?
-No, actually, I don’t think I will. Nobody contacted me, and they probably won’t!
It’s weird, but they usually call to announce their decision, good or bad. I would still have faith.
-Yeah, I don’t know about that, I say in disbelief. What about the car?
-You know I’m not a miracle worker, right?
-Yeah, I do, yet a girl can dream!
Keep on dreaming, hun. Someone’s boss is a priority, but I already ordered the parts, so Friday will be ready!
-Gee, thanks.
-You know, you should come to dinner next week! We have a barbecue each weekend. You need some friends, and maybe you’ll have a reason to celebrate.
– I’ll think about it, Denise. Thanks.
-Good. Now we have to go find Mom. Have faith!
-Bye, guys!
-Bye!

While I’m cooking my carbonara pasta with a glass of wine in hand, my series is abruptly interrupted. An unknown number is calling, but it’s 9 p.m. Could it be?
-Hello!
-Good evening, Miss Alice? A feminine voice is speaking.
-Yes, this is she!
I’m calling on behalf of SINVOWEL’s HR department. I understand that you interviewed with Mr. Valentine L. on Friday for the event planner manager position.
-Yes, I did.
Well, I’m glad to announce that Mr. Valentine and Mr. Iannis have agreed to hire you. You are expected to finalize the documentation tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. at HR.
I did it. I managed to get the job. Fuck, I did it.
-Miss?
-Yeah, sure! Thanks! I’ll see you tomorrow at 7:30
