Hello there and happy Wednesday!
So, today’s topic is a little bit on the forbidden list because it usually causes drifts into relationships, but I will take my chances!
Over the last decade, and on the back of millennials, the personal growth and self-help industry grew! And grew… And grew! I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing! As a millennial, I know the urge to heal and overcome my demons; however, I feel that what is today presented to us as a personal transformation and self-help is more than a few times a scam.
I myself sell planners on Amazon and even some ebooks with positive affirmations, but I like to think that I know better than to advertise them as completely transformative!
Everyone today is a guru, everyone today is a coach! I have friends that have taken classes to become a coach, cause they believed this is their calling. And they graduated, they started, and of course, they failed. Is it their fault as their own coaches love to put the problem, or it was just a scam to take their money?
While I was in therapy, I was told that a life without pain and suffering creates snowflakes, not humans. And I tend to believe it, without trying to diminish what you all have been through.
But, seriously, I do think that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, and I also believe in healing.
However, I stopped believing in the “You can’t do it yourself, join the community and we’ll heal together” kind of thing. I stopped believing the “Transform your life in 90 days” with only..198$.
I only believe in therapists, and being truly honest in myself, cause I handled most of my problems by myself before going to therapy, and I did pretty well.
Yeah, positive affirmations work as long as you understand the mechanism behind them; the same goes for journaling, meditation, praying, NLP, and everything you can imagine.
If something makes incredible promises, it targets the vulnerable, impressionable human who goes through a hard time and buys emotions, not the product.
The self-help industry became what the fitness industry became—a way to make easy money when people suffer!
So, if you need help, any kind of help, and think that this industry is going to work its magic on you, overnight you’ll become rich, healthy-minded, complex, with the best mentality, organized, with no addictions, traumas, or issues, you are scammed! Go find a therapist, then search for tools, because this industry was meant to be filled with tools, not lies!
I’ll leave you digest this article, and maybe after that you can start living #adreamerlife, exactly as you are meant to!
