Good morning dreamers and happy Saturday!
As this weekend I don’t have a wedding planned, but I’m rather preoccupied with more sad rituals and a trip home, I decided to address a problem we women have every year: What do we wear at the next wedding? And no, discussing this in August doesn’t mean I’m late to the party! Wedding season is at its peak! And I have at least three more to go that I know of!
As a respectable woman I was raised on the consumerism trend, it was impregnated in my mind that it’s imperious not to be seen wearing the same dress twice at an event! But what if I like that dress, huh? This is why I bought it, cause I like it and it would be a shame to stay in the wardrobe forever after just a use.
And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one raised like this. Unfortunately for the system, I pretty much say F.Off and just started to rotate my gowns at different events where people haven’t seen me in it, swapping with my sister and sometimes pausing a year between uses!
Believe it or not, my graduation dress is the most used dress in my wardrobe! A green tulle-long green dress that fitted me when I was skinny, fits me now 20 kg after, and fitted my pregnant sister once! It’s a go-to dress for basically that effortless look! Maybe time and trends passed by it, but even so, I find numerous ways to accessorize it so it’s still up-to-date! Why? A long, tulle dress is a staple when it comes to wedding guest dress choices, and now let’s discuss the other dresses you need so you don’t really have to worry about the next weddings and events!
The black dress
One elegant evening dress is everything you need to be a different person every single time! Why? Black is classic yet modern, it’s easy to accessorize, it’s easy to style, and it makes your figure more put together, more mysterious, more feminine more on point! And whoever says black dresses don’t stand out and are boring is probably a boring person itself!
I for instance have three evening black dresses. A spaghetti strap satin one, for more fun, relaxed events, for weddings day to midnight. This one is a bit harder to accessorize as it has a complex design itself. However, a nice touch is offered by the shoes you choose, and I love going for red shoes in black dresses, and also what you take on top of it, a blazer or a nice scarf.
For the second one, I don’t have yet pictures, to be honest, I was too tired to take any, but I found it on my dearest friend Pinterest.
As you can see, it’s more classy, it’s more refined, more mature. Both of them are really comfy, and even if it’s one shoulder I didn’t have any problem. I felt like a real diva in this dress. You can’t add a dress belt to the dress due to design but as I wanted to define my waist more, I ordered a head jewelry and sew it. I can change it, I can take it down, and it becomes a new dress in a matter of minutes!
The third dress is a dress I bought for the New Year, a midi one, a rather cocktail one, but as it’s all glittery it deserves to see the weddings!
Strictly from my point of view, it can be perfect as a bridesmaid dress, mine has a deep slit on the left leg too. Otherwise, for more casual, day to midnight, maybe the second-day party works as well. I wore mine on the second day party. And you can go wild with different accessories with this one too!
To me they are perfect, versatile, and timeless, I can wear them while I am in mourning too, I can have anything crazy on top, can pick any color for my shoes and it will be good to go! The color and material will hide the imperfections around my belly, and they show off my precious legs which I find to be my best point.
Some other options I find timeless and that I would buy are below:
These options not only they are black, but chosen right they are flattering for any type of body and also they have something special that makes them pop same time with something that can be easily adaptable to any style!
The flowy dress
While a structured fitted dress is the best friend of people with confidence or the perfect choice for a red-carpet-like event, I find flowy dresses a flirty option for a relaxed occasion, or for those times when you want to achieve that effortless vibe. For those who love boho, you know what I mean. Mine is the green one I was talking about, but below I’ll share some findings you should consider!
As you can see these dresses come in various style options for each taste: long sleeve, spaghetti straps, V neck, sweetheart, sparkle, satin, tulle, it can even come with a slit, and in each color or pattern.
Besides the green one, I have another pink fluffy one that makes me look like cotton candy. I love it as it’s cozy and hides pretty much everything I want!
I recommend choosing this dress in a solid color that fits you and your style and vibe. I also recommend you to choose a material that accentuates what you like to show off and hides what you don’t want people to remark.
The floral dress
Oh, the sweet floral dress! To me, this dress fits perfectly in cocktail length and in structured pieces as all of us know, some patterns tend to be unflattering to some! This is why this precious type of dress I rather encourage you to wear at day weddings or only to ceremony, city hall, maybe, maybe to some small gatherings.
Floral or not this dress should be in everyone’s closet as it’s versatile, it’s not as long effort as the long flowy one, and for sure should be carefully chosen so it’s the benefit of whoever wears it. However it screams femininity and confidence as it shows pretty much skin and leg!
But, and here’s a big but, for wedding purposes don’t choose a white dress with a floral print on it as a form of respect for the happy couple!
Lady in red
Chris de Burgh knew a thing or two about women wearing red. The color of passion and love should be in the closet. There are areas where wearing red at the wedding means sleeping with the groom. To me, it’s funny as many women choose red as their wedding theme color. And I pretty much wear red as I think especially now since I dyed my hair it suits me even better. The dress I own it’s a flowy one that I bought on sale, and my grandma did it for me to be a backless corset.
The red of course comes in many shades that suit every taste and skin color, and of course many body shapes and styles. However, my personal tip would be to choose a modest tailoring for this color.
The dress
Lastly, I think every woman needs in a closet a bit of toxicity in the form of a dress. And not a simple dress, but the dress you would wear to your ex’s wedding. That dress that makes you feel like you can conquer the world. And as that dress is different for every woman, I’ll let you here some ideas I found delicious.
I know, I know, I said not to wear white at a wedding party, but it’s only the bow, which can be smaller…and I told you where I would wear it…
Other, suitable for this section options would be:
Nothing dramatic, but the dress that makes you shine and shows you your true value!
Besides everything I just told you, I encourage you to have different styles for all these dresses, but it’s up to you what you decide!
I hope you find it helpful and inspiring and of course that you have #adreamerlife!
