Ciucas Peak Hiking: A Must-Do Experience in August in Romania

Hello dreamers and happy weekend!

The heatwave is back so the summer feeling is still show, and with such an opportunity as the weekend and the month of holidays, why not talk about another thing you can do if you decide to visit Romania!

Fun fact: did you know that August is traditionally called “Gustar” (Snack) due to the amount of diverse fruits and veggies that ripe this month. But, due to the emigration that happened after the revolution, in some parts of the country, August is also called Diaspora month as many come back to their families in this period.

Now, that you know 2 new things about Romania, let’s teach you the third one. For those who love hiking, Ciucas Peak is a great choice to start exploring the Carpathian Mountains.

Between counties, lies this Mountain with amazing views over Brasov, Covasna, and Prahova. A medium hike starting at Keya Water Factory will lead you to a spectacular view all year round! And it’s only 2 and a half hours from Bucharest, and one and something from Brasov!

Of course, there are other hike options towards Ciucas Peak but we will discuss just this one now!

Near the water factory is the best place to leave your car as you’ll find a modest parking lot and the choice to pay a 4*4 car to bring you to the Ciucas Cabin in 15-20 minutes with under 5 $. If you want to enjoy the spectacular view of the Beer Valley ahead of you, you can walk to the Ciucas Cabin, as it’s more a walk than a hike. However it’s a 2-hour walk in dust, as the 4*4 cars have regular rides. It’s a blue cross forest walk, with shade, but in the end, it’s up to you.

Once at the Ciucas Cabin, you can refill your water bottle take a bite, relax, and grab a coffee. They have pretty much anything to make your next part of the journey easier, as from the cabin the fun begins.

While you relax at the cabin, you’ll see the Peak staring at you with all its beauty, and it’s only one hour-an hour and a half for someone like me, for more enthusiasts, it can be even fewer minutes! It’s a red-line hike in the plain sun, with only a few forest spots, so water and sunscreen are essential so you don’t peel off like I did.

Disclaimer, I had sunscreen on my forearms, but it was hotter than expected and I had to change. And then I forgot the sunscreen in the car… So yeah, I’m blonde sometimes.

Only one part is more challenging with many rocks, the horn as it’s called. With baby steps and patience, it’s easily done. Besides that? Many landscapes offer you an amazing view.

Once on top, you’ll know it was worth it! You can easily go back to the Cabin and rent a car, or if you feel strong enough you can hike back to the car!

The most amazing time is in the spring as pink surrounds you due to Rhododendrons blooms!

You can spice it up with a hike towards Red Mountain Cabin also and to change the route and landscapes!

What do you think? Are you giving it a go?

Until you let me know, I wish you #adreamerlife!
