Cascada CașocaPruncea (Cașoca/ Pruncea Waterfall)

Well, hello, dreamers, and happy Wednesday!

(O versiune similara a acestui articol exista si in romana aici!/ A similar version of this article can be found here!)

I know I’ve surprised you by killing the summer vibe with yesterday’s article, but today I am here to make demands.
Since August is the last Summer month, the last breath of fresh air we have until we get back to our usual lives, I come in front of you today to share a special place I found.

Located in the heart of the Buzau Mountains (Romania), an astonishing but barely known waterfall can be found. Called Casoca after the village, or Pruncea, this spot transports you to other lands like Bali, Wyoming, Malaysia, and many others.

Approximately 2 hours from Brasov or Buzau, with stunning forests and other landmarks to see on the way, Pruncea waterfall is worth a trip.
I discovered it 2-3 years ago, but now I went to see it three times. Short disclaimer, 3rd time was a charm.

You’ll take the national road 10 (DN10) until you reach Cacoca village, near Siriu dam. If you come from Brasov way, it’s a turn left in Lunca Jaristei after you come down the barrage. If you come from the Buzau side before riding up the dam it’s a turn right in Lunca Jaristei. There is a sign saying there is 4.5 km to the waterfall. And trust my word, it’s right, only 4.5 km!

The road is accessible to every kind of car. However, you might need a 4×4 or SUV due to weather conditions. At a certain point, the road it’s only paved.

The landscape is stunning, and if you are into camping, there are certain spots near the water where it’s worth spending the night.

When you get to the waterfall, a lateral road guides you to some tiny cabins for airsoft and drinks, but they are open only on weekends. There, you’ll also find a sign to the stairs which leads you to the water.

Once you go down the stairs, you’ll find an arranged spot in the woods near the water. There are 4-5 tables with benches and garbage cans, so the place stays clean. It’s quiet and, during hot summer days, it’s breathable.

There is no tax to visit. You can hike there also, or you can bike. I haven’t met wild animals, but be aware of them. You can stay as much as you need and enjoy the beauty of the spot.

Now, coming back to my adventure with Pruncea/ Casoca Waterfall, here is the story.

The first time I went to see it, it was full of people. Without exaggeration, I think more than 50 people were waiting to see the landscape, take pictures, and gaze. It was a Sunday afternoon at the end of the spring. I quit quickly, let others enjoy it, and plan to go on an early morning.

Said and done. The only thing was that it was after rain and the water was dirty. However, I got to spend some time and enjoy it either way and made some ideas of what kind of photoshoot I wanted to do there if I went on a hot summer day.

The third time, I was in luck. The water was cleaner, it was warm, not windy, and even if I did not do the photoshoot I wanted (Yet), I managed to dip my toes into the water and enjoy a relaxing moment.

I think Casoca waterfall, or Pruncea, however, you want to call it, it’s an extraordinary spot to check when you pass through Buzau or its surroundings. And the bonus I haven’t mentioned yet is: It’s not mainstream like Transfagarasan Road or Dracula’s Castel. If you want to be alone, you can go early morning or during the week to have it all to yourself.

I hope I made up to you with this hidden gem of nature that lies in my beautiful country Romania.

Until next time, have #adremerlife,
Cristiana Apreutese
