Dreamer

Well, good evening dreamers!
Tonight, I was planning to talk to you about the holiday we are celebrating today in Romania: Dragobetele, yet my plans are defeated by a situation that affects the whole world: the war between Ukraine and Russia.
It feels ironic to me, yet so poetic, also, so much of a deja-vu. Dragobete is a national Holiday, similar to Valentine’s day; is a holiday that celebrates love, no matter age, race, gender, relationship. We went to sleep and woke up, to celebrate love. A few minutes later, reality hits and we found out that our northern neighbors are attacked.
It’s an attack we all saw it coming, yet none of us wanted to believe that an armed conflict can take place in a cybernetic era. Let’s be serious, I’m not conspirational, but I’m aware that within a few mouse clicks, the world would be extremely different. So, why the blood, the violence, the murders, and most likely nuclear attack or threats? Aren’t we sick of all the smoke and mirrors that are present to us? It’s pretty much our fault and our responsibility to share with our leaders what’s happening today.
The worst part is that today, a deja vu feeling hit me. 2 years ago, I was just starting my last semester in college, I was back in Brasov after the week off for semester break. I remember going on a Wednesday at my supervisor’s Class and she was wandering about the pandemics and how they will evolve and we just had a free talk around the subject. The weather was gloomy and the world was still, it felt like the time was stopped. We have a saying “the quiet before the storm”. The same way today felt. The atmosphere was heavy. Theoretically, we have NATO support, UE support, but let’s be real, we are the next border. We, Hungary, Black Sea, are the next border, so, it’s normal to stay still and wait for the next move. It’s also normal and adequate to be mindful, realistic, to pray, and hope for the best. This day, anyway, will stay in history.

One last thought about this situation and then I’ll end it, according to the world data-base, Ukraine hit at 11 Feb 22, the peak of the pandemic. 2 week later, this. I think it’s an interesting thing think about.
