Christmas traditions

Hello guys, how is your weekend?
To be honest, I am pretty tired even if I slept last night more than during the week. The fact that there is just one week until Christmas is taking a lot of energy from me but I’m adding extra coffee and I’m fine.
Today I want to talk with you about something called traditions. But not any kind of traditions, Romanian Christmas traditions and the ones I and my family keep.

So, as I did the whole month in a way or another, I’m keeping it short and getting straight to the point.

One of the traditions my family keeps is about food. In Romania’s region Moldova, there is a dessert called Turte. It’s amazing from my point of view. It is made from bread dough, nuts, and hemp with sugar and vanilla. Traditionally this dish is called Jesus swaddle, and they are eaten after 24.

Caroling. Well, like in some other cultures caroling is a thing in Romania too. Like the trick or treat of Halloween (which Romanians don’t have), the same rules apply to Caroling. We host carolers on Christmas eve that sing us and serve them fruits, sweets, and money.

Decorating the Christmas tree. In many houses, this activity is done on Christmas Eve with family. It’s done the same in my family too, but not because of tradition just because of the lack of time.

On the first day of Christmas, there is another form of Caroling. Kind comes and carols us with Steaua (The star). This tradition has its roots in the myth of the guiding star.

Gift opening on Christmas morning. This activity is done with all family.

Maybe a cruel tradition but we’re easter-European so cut us some slack, is the pig scarification. Well, as winters have low temperatures now, and before global warming, were even lower, it’s normal that people sacrificed big animals during winter. We talk about the times when refrigerators weren’t in every house and the meat had to be kept fresh. We can add the big holiday when everyone wanted something special on the table and this is how this tradition was born. Now, traditional fos are made like sausages, ham, loin, meat pudding.

Well, here are some Christmas traditions that are both known and unknown.
I personally love them and I wouldn’t feel it’s Christmas without them. Let me know what you think and also, don’t forget to have #adreamerlife.
