Oh, Romania

Hello Guys! Important day today for Romanians all around the world; it’s our national day!

At first, I thought about writing something warm and heartful. On the other hand, I thought writing something bitter cause maybe some cold truth would help. But, others did and, nothing changed.

So, I’m writing the truth for everyone around the world to see; and maybe, we as nationals might end up changing something.

Romania is an Easter-European Country still haunted by communist influences. Yeah, we theoretically escaped it, defeated it, and got our rights and liberty.

But I pretty much think we have Stockholm syndrome. Otherwise, how could you explain that many of us miss the old form of governance?

We fought to have democracy, to make decisions, to be informed, to have access to everything.,but do we use these? Of course not! In most of our opinions, it wouldn’t change a thing, so why bother?

Our country is insanely beautiful!
We have four seasons and all geographical forms. We have mountains, hills, rivers, plains, vulcanos, and so on. We have architecture and painting, UNESCO places, historical sites, National Natural Parks, castles, and, we don’t promote them. Also, we cover them in the plastic cause, well, why not?

Maybe it’s our way to keep it protected from all the evil tourists that can be amazed and share the information; the final result being increased tourism in our country and the end more money for everyone. Who wants that?

We have a thing for tradition. Many that visited us said that our food has a different taste, a better one. We have traditional songs too, and activities for different seasons.

We have a free educational system because we want to have intelligent communities but, we don’t value the people in the system; we don’t hear them. And, being someone on both sides of the system, Master Degree student and high school teacher, all I can say is we excel at theory, we fail when it comes to practice.

I would talk about our health and medical search system but I prefer not to. Better keep in mind that we can be proud of penicillin and Marie Curie. We’re stuck there so, nothing new, except for the fact that we use oxygen as a source for fireworks. Kidding, we just let our hospitals burn, with people inside.

I know, this article is not quite patriotic but, I hope for all the Romanians that read it, to open our minds a bit more. As for the rest of the world out there that reads it, I hope that, despite all that I’ve said, you’ll take your courage and visit us. We are beautiful indeed, we just don’t know how to take advantage of it! Here you can see exactly how beautiful we are, and in my gallery, even more!

La multi ani, Romania!
